How to: Pronounce those unusual food names

By | Uncategorised | No Comments

Although we may not admit to it, we all struggle with those new, trending food names and muffle them under our breath when speaking out loud. With new health foods trending regularly, we thought we’d break down those hard-to-pronounce food names for you to avoid those awkward moments with your foodie friends, enjoy!

Acai

It’s our #1 choice for breakfast, lunch and sometimes, even dinner. We love our Frozen Organic Acai packs, so we thought we’d teach you all how to say it correctly. You pronounce Acai – “Ah-Sai-Ee”. So many people pronounce this “A-Cai-Ee”, or “Ac-Eye”, so now you don’t have to be one of them!

Quinoa

Now this has been around for a little longer, so majority of you will already know how to pronounce this one but for those who don’t – it’s pronounced “Keen-Wah”, not “Kween-Oh-Ah” or “Quinn-Oh-Ah”. You can thank us later.

Pho

Now this one is a little tricky – majority of us have tried this delicious Asian food trend, and go back time and time again for more! But do you actually say what it is, or just point to it on the menu? Many of us would automatically pronounce this as “P-O-H” or “F-Ow”, when in actual fact it is pronounce “F-uh”.

Charcuterie

This one, we constantly go to order as an entrée, or share plate and kind of just say “cha…. That one” and point at our menu’s and make sad eyes at the waiter to say “don’t just me please”. This one is pronounced “shahr-KOO-tuhr-ee”.

Edamame

This one has got me stumped SO many times that I’ve not ordered it because of the embarrassment of trying to say it aloud! I’ve attempted so many times, trying “Ed-A-Meme” or “Eda-Mamme” and after the waiter gives me confused looks, I end up just pointing to it on the menue and putting my head down! The correct way to pronounce this is “ed-dah-mah-meh”.

Alas, there we are! We hope this saves you some embarrassment at your next dining experience! #Creative Gourmet

We’re just going to put it out there – dark chocolate is actually good for you. It’s rich in antioxidants, and could potentially improve your heart health as well! A few squares is all you should need to keep you going and give you a delightful sugar boost.

Smoothie

If you have the time, a quick smoothie is a great alternative to ice-cream or candy. Make it simple, and wiz up some of our frozen bananas, honey and low-fat milk for a light, healthy snack.

Fruit

I know, I know – this sounds like mums old saying “If you’re hungry, eat some fruit!” But seriously, do it. Fruit is high in good sugars, and apart of your daily health needs. Chew on a whole apple, or banana for a fantastic arvo-boost.

Nuts

High in fat, and density, you only need a few to keep you feeling full until dinner. Grab a handful of almonds, and nibble on them during afternoon snack time. You’ll not only be full but probably thirsty as well, so it will remind you to keep that water intake up.

Veggie Sticks & Dips

A simple yet utterly delicious way to pack in some more vegetables to your day. Cut up some carrot, celery, capsicum and cucumber and dip them into some delicious dips like hommus or red capsicum. Don’t over do it though, as you will be full for dinner!

Baby bell cheese

It sounds like something you pack into a childs lunch box, but at 70 calories per piece these cute little cheese wheels are a delightful addition to yours as well! They’re 100% natural cheese and taste fantastic.

Foodie destinations to head to this winter

By | Uncategorised | No Comments

Okay, it’s safe to say it – winter is here. At least for the state of Victoria that is! As the air becomes fresh, and the ground becomes frosty, we often rug up, hibernate inside and rarely leave the house. After a while, it gets to be a little boring, and you just need to get out and move around again! So no matter where you are, jump in the car and head to some of these locations for a day-out-in-foodie-heaven that will be worth braving the cold for.

Well there’s a reason Melbourne is called the world’s most livable city! The reason why so many people migrate to Victoria every year is because it has an abundance of food, from various cuisines, all at your fingertips, and this extends to the outer boroughs as well.

A great place to visit for a divine foodie experience is Bendigo, in Central Victoria. With so many choices you will have a fantastic experience wherever you go (there’s approximately 200 places to eat in town!). From classic-yet-divine pub food, to Asian-inspired share-style cuisine there are some fantastic choices! Our favorites have to be Masons, The Woodhouse, Four Ponies, and Rocks on Rosalind.

Another fantastic foodie location is Red Hill, on the Mornington Peninsula. With wineries galore, this is a great place to stay, wine and dine to your hearts delight. Hosting home to delightful wineries such as Montalto, T’Gallant, and Hickingbotham you can really eat your way around the vineyards and take in the pristine scenery that is the Peninsula.

Last but certainly not least is Daylesford, Central Victoria. Known for its delightful, funky establishments, it’s perfect for the ultimate hipster. Test out Kazuki’s or Lake House and you’ll be in for a real treat!

Alas, there we have it fellow Victorians. Now which one will you be trying out this weekend? Send us your pictures of Facebook/Instagram using the hashtag #CreativeGourmet.
